Cheesy French Onion Pasta Bake

Ingredients
- 8 oz pasta such as penne or rigatoni
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 large onions thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until they are softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Add the garlic, sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Add the beef broth to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cook until the broth is reduced by half, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a simmer. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses over the top of the pasta.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
You can also add some diced cooked bacon or sliced mushrooms to the pasta mixture for added flavor.
